Community service
Iowa Renewable Energy Association website
I've been a fan of renewable energy since the 1970s, so when I first moved to Iowa, I hooked up with these fine people to promote renewable energy issues within the state. My volunteer efforts focused mostly on web site development, having designed (along with Blair Gauntt) the current site and three event sites for the annual Energy Expo. All of these jobs were a challenging effort in information architecture that added to my understanding of website design. Working with I-Renew has been a rewarding experience, and for a time, I served on the Board of Directors as chair of the communications committee. However, because of budget cuts at the university, I've had to scale back my service work and stepped down from the board in September 2009.
